HOME - SOLAR HOT W ATER

Natural Living: Home Section - Solar Hot Water

The simplest and most effective solar heating system after passive solar is a solar hot water heater. This system is also well proven as a water heating system for domestic hot water in countries like Cyprus:

Types

Many different types of solar hot water heating systems exist. Hot water heating systems for warm climates are extensively throughout the world. The picture above is a closed loop system using liquid glycol to collec heat in the panel and then heats water in the tank for use in showers and sinks. The Greek unit shown in the picture has been installed at a beach house in the Dominican Republic ( www.WilsonsBeachHouse.com )for several years. These systems work well.

Other types of systems include thermo syphon systems for colder climates that empty the system when the temperatures are too cold. Newer systems use vacuum tubes in order to enhance performance especially in colder climates.

These systems can also be hooked up to radiant heating systems in colder climates to supplement other heating systems.

Roof Mounting

The picture belows shows solar photo voltaic flexible panels on the roof (darker panels to the left) and Solcan solar hot water panels to the right.
