David MacKay, the author of Sustainable Energy, is a Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Cambridge. In his most recent book he digs into the "numbers" to try to extricate reality and truth, from the broad range of of what he calls "kingdom of codswallop". Codswallop appears to means something to do with confusing broad passionate statements with actual numbers to back up claims in support of specific action in a specific direction. To be sure, we need to base our decisions on numbers that are accurate, correct and relevant. Defining our terms my be another area that, though dull and boring, is required in order to properly understand what is going on in the world.
How much energy do we need? Can renewable energy provide enough to power our world, country, city, or home? Is nuclear an option? What are the real numbers behind climate science? Is the real issue behind climate change really the energy problem?
