Overview
People
from all
over Ontario, from all walks of life, aging from 1 month to 85 years
old, come to tour the inspiring Natural home built by John Wilson
and Leigh Geraghty. The Toronto Star feature article entitled "Natural
dream" that appeared nine days after the big blackout struck
a chord. As Brian Dexter said in his article, "When it comes
to living green, you can't do much better than the Wilson family.
On most days, their hydro meter even runs backward at times as they
export electricity to Ontario's power grid. It's a great example
of what one family can accomplish in doing what's right for the
environment."
Premier
of Ontario Dalton McGuinty Commendation for SunFest
"I commend
you for your efforts in helping Ontarians to realize the importance
of energy conservation and to reduce energy consumption." -

Time: 2pm-3pm
Have
you heard about permaculture, straw bale building, and ecovillages,
but want to know more? Here is one of the best opportunities available
to do so in a short time, all in one spot! Jillian Hovey will lead
you on a slide show journey through natural building materials (stone,
slate roofs, rammed earth, cob, adobe, earthship, sandbag, strawbale,
timber frame, thatch roof), renewable energy systems (solar photovoltaics
and thermal, microhydro, wind), alternative waste water treatment
(living machines, flow forms, aerated ponds, flow forms, composting
toilets, humanure system), organic growing and edible landscaping,
intentional community and ecovillages. Jillian's slide shows are
an experience worth having!
Jillian is a
seasoned international permaculture teacher who is dedicated to
inspiration and education about healthy and sustainable living.
Jillian holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture from the University of Guelph,
and is waiting to sit her final exam for a Masters in Environmental
Studies in Sustainable Community Planning and Design from York University
in Toronto. Jillian works as a facilitator of sustainable design
teams, and has taught and worked on projects across North America
and down into Central America as far as Costa Rica. Jillian founded
and acts as Director of the Sustainable Living Network, whose Sustainable
Living Books project makes over 2,000 titles on sustainable and
healthy living available at special events and shows (and on line
at www.sustainablelivingbooks.com in the fall of 2003). Jillian
sustains herself financially through her teaching, design, and facilitation
